How do I get a job as a web designer?

I spend a lot of my time managing design and designers. I sometimes teach people how to be web designers.

I know what good designers look like.

Good designers construct sentences properly. They know what a colon, semi-colon, interrobang and an em dash is.

Good designers can articulate clearly what they’re thinking by just talking to you. If it’s really complicated, they can draw it for you.

Good designers are good at arguing. They can construct an argument to sell you what they’ve created.

Good designers are curious. They care about more than just design. They know why we’re currently in a recession and can probably tell you a fact about something you’ve never heard of.

Good designers are humble. They’re not precious about sharing their ideas or working with other people. They’re not prima-donnas.

Good designers care about producing something that works for the purpose it’s meant to, not producing something that’s pretty ((I don’t mean designers don’t care about producing things that look nice. That’s a given.)).

Good designers read everything I’ve just read above and think: well, obviously.
